The first thing that you will need to make sure that you do is remain alert.  If you are sleepy, you may want to get some rest before you begin preparing a big meal.  If you have been drinking, the last thing that you should do is stand in a hot kitchen over a hot stove and working with a hot oven.  Not only could you hurt yourself, you could damage things in your kitchen.

Another thing that you will need to make sure that you do is remain in the kitchen while you are cooking.  A lot of people set food to cook and leave the kitchen, and they forget that they have food cooking.  Whether you are frying or grilling food, make sure that you stay in the kitchen when you are cooking.
